Celebrate Rumi’s Urs, the Wedding Night
7:30 pm, December 17, 2015
Covenant Presbyterian Church
2070 Ridgecliff Rd. Upper Arlington OH 43221

Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi Mevlana
died December 17, 1273 AD, 5 Jumadhi II, 672 AH
Konya, Turkey
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When you see my hearse, don
’t cry, "Hes gone, gone!"
Remember, union and encounter are mine in that hour.

When you commit me to the grave, don
t say: "Goodbye,
goodbye."
The grave is a curtain concealing the community of
Paradise.

After looking upon descent, consider resurrection;
To the sun and moon, is setting a calamity?

To you death is a setting; in truth it
s a rising.
Though the grave seems like a prison, it comes as the
soul
s release.

Shut your mouth on this side of death, open in beyond.
Your song will be triumphant in nowhere
s air.

from James Cowan's translation in
Rumi
s Divan of Shems of Tabriz, Selected Odes
Element Books Limited 1997
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The Columbus Sufi Circle invites all to j
the celebration of the death day of Mevlana,
his Union with the Beloved.
There will be singing, dancing, poetry, desserts.
Music from Voice of Anatolia and Seventh House Moon
If you’d like; bring a Rumi poem to share, a dessert.
And come dressed for dancing!
