Silent Zikr, Saturday November 25

Now let us be silent
So that the Giver of Speech may speak.
Let us be silent
So we can hear Him calling us
secretly in the night.

-- from Ghazal 1713, Version by Jonathan Star
"Rumi - In the Arms of the Beloved "

Why silent Zikr?

The very essence of the self is the illusion that we can ‘do’..
That illusion is the single source our separation and alienation.

The goal of zikr is to pass through the veil of separation and dissolve into The One.

But whatever ‘doing’ we engage in necessarily prolongs the illusion of a ‘doer’. There is nothing the self can ‘do’ to cease its ‘doing’.

So let us now begin the silent discipline of ‘not-doing’,
and hope to receive at last the gift of ‘non-doing’.
